The Valley of History

The Austrian Open-Air Museum in Stübing is one of the largest open-air museums in Europe. There are over 100 historic buildings on an area of around 65 hectares. Although the 20 residential houses and numerous other buildings all come from other parts of Austria, the arrangement of the buildings in the valley gives the impression of being in a historic farming village. A grocer's shop, school, mill or blacksmith's shop give an idea of how shopping, working or raising children may have shaped everyday life.

Farm vehicles and tools as well as numerous exhibitions, some of which change annually, round off the journey into the past. In total, the museum has around 130,000 individual objects.

What would a rural settlement be without an inn? Level. During the museum's opening hours, the restaurant "Zum Göller" takes care of the well-being of the visitors. Typical Austrian dishes are served. Depending on the season and the availability of regional products, historical dishes from different regions are also offered.

Traditional crafts

The transfer of knowledge about traditional handicraft skills is also part of the preservation mission of the open-air museum. Building roofs and fences and laying shingles are necessary skills to preserve the objects and are taught to visitors during demonstrations and courses.

The journey to the Stübing open-air museum takes about 45 minutes via S6 and S35. The entrance building is located at the beginning of the picturesque valley and can be reached via an underpass. For groups of 18 people or more, discounted prices apply. Please note that the historic buildings and the paths between them are not suitable for people with limited mobility.
