Experience beer history in Leoben at first hand

Visit the origin of "Austria's best beer"!

The Göss brewery is one of the most modern breweries in Austria. Its history stretches back over 1,000 years and is closely linked to that of the town Leoben.

The foundation for today's success was laid in 1860 by the brewer Max Kober. He acquired parts of the monastery and reactivated the monastery brewery. Beer lovers know: That year, which is so important for Gösser, can still be found on the labels today.

Another interesting fact is only known to a few. At the gala dinner for the signing of the Austrian State Treaty in 1955, a beer from Leoben was served: Gösser Spezial.

The best ingredients for Austria's best beer

In addition to the knowledge passed down from generation to generation about the secrets of brewing beer, the selection of the right ingredients also plays an important role in the production of Gösser beer.

The brewing water comes from the brewery's own wellspring and the hops are grown in Leutschach in southern Styria. The barley used comes mainly from the Weinviertel region. The malt is made from it by heating and swelling it up with water.

Gösser also sets a good example when it comes to energy generation. The 1,500 square meter solar plant, the efficient reuse of waste heat and the recycling of residues in the company's own biogas plant are important steps in the sustainable brewing process.

Brewery tour at the Gösser brewery

During your guided tour of the brewery, accompanied by trained staff, you will learn interesting facts about the brewing process and how sustainably Gösser beer is already produced today. At the end of the tour, a glass of Gösser awaits you, served with a beer pretzel.
