Running and trail running in and around Leoben

Your active stay at Hotel Kongress

Lace up your running shoes after a challenging day at work and leave the stress behind. Leoben offers running enthusiasts around 35 kilometers of marked running routes. These are spread over seven different laps, which can also be combined with each other. Away from the marked routes, there are numerous other opportunities to get active. And the best thing about it - you can start your running experience right in front of Hotel Kongress.

Running alongside the river Mur (tarmac)

Leoben is nestled in the loops of the Mur, the longest river in Styria. In earlier times, its location offered the town protection from attackers. Today, the paths along the water are popular activity areas and ideal for strolling or active sports. The route from Judendorf to Göß and back to the hotel is one of the most popular ones. It is around 7 kilometers long, with no significant inclines, ideal for a quick run after work.

Working out with a view - on the Pambichler Warte (tarmac, gravel, trail)

From the hotel, the route leads via the Massenburg to the Gasthaus Pambichler Warte. From here you have a beautiful view over Leoben’s district Göss with the brewery of the same name and the premises of Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding AG.

The lookout tower itself, which gives the restaurant its name, is located just under a kilometer north-east in the forest and is easily accessible via the forest road. Depending on your preference, the route then leads back via gravel roads or the hiking trail. Several variants are possible. The longer routes are 9 kilometers long with 250 meters of altitude.

Historical trail - the Leobener Mining-tour (tarmac, gravel, trail)

High-quality lustrous coal was mined in the district Seegraben until 1964. On the Mining-tour you can explore the few remaining visible signs of the mining history. The most important stops are the Barbara Chapel, the Traugott tunnel and the miner's monument. Starting from the Asia Spa and following the marked running route, you pass all three points over the course of 6 kilometers.

Visiting the climbers - Häuselberg tour (tarmac, gravel, trail)

The Häuselberg is a popular local recreation area in the immediate vicinity of the town. In the "Lesnerwand" climbing garden, numerous climbing routes of varying degrees of difficulty are waiting to be conquered. Hiking trails lead around and over the Häuselberg. From the highest point at 731 meters, you can see the districts Hinterberg and Göß. There are several options for runners to explore the "mountain". If you follow the signposted Häuselberg tour starting at the end of Mareckkai, it takes 5 kilometers to complete this tour.
